How to create a simple overlay #
Introduced in Nimbra Edge R3.25
This how-to guide will show you how to create a simple overlay in Nimbra Edge.
Background #
Overlays are added as part of a transformation pipeline in Nimbra Edge. This means the stream has to be decoded, transformed, and encoded again. It is only recommended to run transformations on video nodes with attached accelerators.
Create an overlay #
Navigate to ⚙ Settings → Production tools and click CREATE OVERLAY.

You will now see an empty canvas where your overlay will be previewed. Overlays are comprised of layers, text, and images.
For this simple example, we will add a channel logo to the top right, and a datetime stamp to the bottom left.
Add the channel logo #
- Click the
🏞️⁺ ADD IMAGEbutton at the top - Choose the image you would like to use as the channel logo.
- Select Right alignment.
Tip: Try to move the image inwards from the edges to add some padding.
Add the datetime stamp #
- Click the
A+ ADD TEXTbutton at the top - Choose the Datetime preset.
- Select Bottom alignment.
Preview #
Your overlay should now look something like this:

Save the overlay #
Click SAVE to save your overlay. You can now apply this overlay to your stream.
Warning: When saving overlays which are in use, the stream will be momentarily interrupted as the changes are applied.
Check out the result #
Apply the overlay to a transformed stream and check out the result.
